In 2009, Harvard's Greenhouse Gas Executive Committee and the Administrative Deans Council approved Harvard's Green Building Standards, expanding upon the 2007 Green Building Guidelines, which apply to all capital projects at the University.

To support the implementation of these standards, Harvard University has created the following tools and resources including the Green Building Resource, a set of training modules (life cycle costing, LEED, cost-effective green building etc.), a range of green building services, the Green Revolving Loan Fund, and an advisory service to provide immediate assistance in understanding how the standards apply to each project and what resources are available.

History

The Harvard Green Building Standards grew out of the Green Building Guidelines developed in 2007 through a partnership between the University Construction Managers Council and the Harvard Green Campus Initiative (now Office for Sustainability), who convened an interfaculty committee to draft a set of green building guidelines for the University. These Standards were approved by a group of 100 university project managers, the Capital Projects Review Committee, the University Construction Management Council, the Financial Deans and the Administrative Deans.
