FAQs
What do Reps do?
Life as a Rep varies a lot from week to week. Activities include hosting study breaks and other events (film screenings, workshops, etc), developing and sending e-mails to residents, tabling in the Hark, attending bi-weekly meetings, postering, meeting with members of the HLS administration, and developing materials for campaigns or administrative projects. Reps take part in move-in events, conduct semi-annual Waste Audits, and run the HLS Earth Day Fair. There will also be opportunities for you to develop and implement independent dorm or HLS wide sustainability projects of your own choosing.
What if I am not sure if I can always devote 3 hours a week to Green Living work?
Work loads vary from week to week; often Reps work less than 3 hours, and sometimes more in preparation for large events such as Earth Day. Outside of a biweekly hourly meeting, much of the work of being a Rep is done on a Rep’s own time.
What are start and end dates for this job?
Work typically begins during student move-in in the fall, and is mostly completed by the beginning of exam period, although a few move-out efforts continue through spring move-out.
Sounds great. How do I apply?
To apply, fill out the above application and email it to HLS Sustainability Engagement Manager Kate Cosgrove, kathryn_cosgrove@harvard.edu by 11:59 PM, Sunday April 30, 2012. Interviews, which can be conducted by phone, will take place soon after.
