One department's trash is another one's treasure! Sarah Gordon of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Human Resources department helped other FAS departments clean out their closets, save money, and keep waste out of the landfill by organizing the first FAS Supply Swap. Held on December 17th at Lowell Lecture Hall, the swap was a huge success, despite the pouring rain.
Departments at Harvard cleared out their closets and, with the help of Harvard Recycling, brought them to the swap. Departments from all over Harvard came over to pick up free office supplies (such as toner, paper, pens, tape, file folders, etc.).
One of the biggest success stories of the day was when Frank Farley from the Meissner Lab saw a sign and stopped in. His department had just moved to Northwest Labs and they had purchased all of their lab equipment but no office equipment. We were able to furnish him with all of the supplies he needed⎯at no cost!
Extra supplies were brought to Harvard Recycling’s warehouse to be stored for a future supply swap. Look for an outdoor one this summer.
