Sustainability at Harvard

Go Green During WinterSession

Three new activities offered as part of the Winter Optional Activities Week will introduce College undergraduates to Harvard's efficiency efforts and will give them a unique behind the scenes view of campus operations. Organized by the FAS Green Program and Harvard's Green Building Services. In addition, this year's Public Interest Career Conference includes a Green Career Track!

Tour of SCRB - Harvard's newest and greenest lab building

When: Tue 1/17, 15:00 - 16:00; 16:00 – 17:00

Where: SCRB (Sherman Fairchild)

What: Join us for a tour of Harvard's newest and greenest laboratory building. Sherman-Fairchild (home of the Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology Department) opened this summer and features a number of unique features, including chilled beams, a grey-water reuse system, a heat recovery system, and state-of-the-art lighting technology. This is your chance to learn first hand about the features that have dramatically reduced the amount of energy used per occupant in the building.

Discovering Opportunities for Saving Energy in Buildings

When: Wed 1/18, 10:00 – 12:30

Where: New College Theater, 12 Holyoke Street

What: Interested in learning more about building energy efficiency and the steps Harvard is taking to reduce energy consumption in buildings? Join the Harvard Energy Audit Team as they conduct an ASHRAE Level II energy audit of The New College Theater. Participants will accompany the Energy Audit Team as they walk through the mechanical spaces of the building and gain valuable insight as to how large building mechanical systems work. Students will learn about new energy saving technologies and how Harvard is incorporating these technologies into campus buildings. The session will include hands on experience using some of the specialized tools needed for an energy audit including a thermographic camera and balometer. No engineering or technical knowledge is necessary to get the full benefit of this session. Many of the energy saving techniques can even be implemented in your home. Please join us for an exciting and unique behind the scenes view of building systems.
