Sustainability at Harvard

CERtoon - About the Competition

About the Competition

Scope

In the past, CERtoons addressed a different environmental topic each year (computer energy in 2004 and 2005; renewable energy and energy conservation in 2006; GHG emissions in 2007, and in 2008, we left the environmental topic up to the artist.

In honor of the new goal President Faust has laid out for Harvard, we're re-acronyming CERtoon, from "Campus Energy Reduction" to "Campus Emission Reduction" cartoon, and the topic for this year was once again left open to the artist. However, we asked the artists to keep Harvard's New Greenhouse Gas Goal in mind when drawing their CERtoons.

We asked that these issues be addressed in a humorous way, and the cartoons were initially judged on their humor, aesthetic appeal and creativity.

Entry Judgment

Submissions will be first reviewed by a 4-member Office for Sustainability committee. The 15 best pieces will then pass to the 2nd round where a 7 person committee comprised of diverse members of the Harvard community, will judge the pieces based on humor, aesthetic appeal, creativity, and uniqueness. During a two-week voting period (March 10-20), all students will have an opportunity to cast a vote for their favorite entries in their house. The judging panel will factor in the results of the student vote. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 15th, 4:30PM. Location TBD.
