On Monday April 11th, Harvard held the 2nd annual Green Carpet Awards, our university-wide sustainability celebration and recognition event for students, staff and faculty. 55 individuals and seven team projects award winners were honored from each of Harvard’s 12 plus Schools and departments. Over 200 individuals and team projects were nominated, reflecting the breadth and scope of sustainability initiatives across Harvard.
This Green Carpet Awards was recommended by the University Greenhouse Gas Emissions Task Force as a key component to attain our goal, communicate our success, and honor our campus sustainability champions. This year's event includes over 14 distinguished presenters including faculty and FAS Dean Smith and student performances by Plump Concord and the Harvard Oppportunes a capella group.
We also showed two videos produced by the Office for Sustainability -- the first focused on the power of individual action and the second featuring five Harvard faculty speaking about the challenge of climate change. The student produced music video "Turn off the Lights" was an instant hit with the crowd.
To read more about the event check out the Gazette article or Crimson's coverage.
Congratulations to all our winners and nominees! They are all listed on our Green Carpet Awards web page at www.green.harvard.edu/greencarpet. Across the university it's our people who make Harvard a leader on sustainability and we thank you for your hard work, creativity and commitment.
